Summit County, Colorado

Color that holds at altitude.

Gambino Paint LLC is a house painting company in Summit County, Colorado: interior, exterior and commercial painting with the prep that survives a mountain winter.

March, 2:40 p.m.

Up here, the sun eats paint.

Ultraviolet about a third stronger than at sea level, a freeze most nights, and a rushed coat over bad prep peels in a season. You pay for the job twice.

Prepped, primed, two coats, on the day we said.

Wash, scrape, sand, caulk, prime the bare wood, then two coats of the right product for the elevation. We clean up like we were never there.

A two-story home is usually 2,000 to 3,500 square feet of wall.

How is the surface?

Exterior

$4,850 to $9,200

The mountain is hard on paint.

A coat that lasts twelve years in Denver can go in four up here. The difference is almost never the paint. It is the prep under it.

Ultraviolet
About a third stronger at 9,000 feet than at sea level. It chalks and fades a coat that would last years down the hill.
Freeze and thaw
Most nights from October to May. Water gets behind paint that was put over unprimed wood and lifts it off by spring.
The season
Exterior work needs nights above about 40 degrees, so the window is short. We book it early and prep in the shoulder weeks.

Four steps, in order.

The first step is a visit, and the last step is you walking the job with us and finding nothing to point at.

  1. 1

    Walkthrough

Half an hour at your place. We look at every surface, check the prep it needs, and talk colors while we are standing in your light.

  2. 2

    Written price

A flat price and a scope you can read, usually within two days. If a wall needs a year of weathering before it is worth painting, we say so.

  3. 3

    Prep

Wash, scrape, sand, caulk, patch, prime. Up here this is most of the job, and it is the part a cheap bid skips.

  4. 4

    Paint and walk

Two coats, brushed and rolled where it counts. We walk it with you at the end, touch up anything you point at, and leave the site clean.

We're up here too.

Gambino Paint LLC is based in Summit County, Colorado and works across Summit County and the I-70 corridor. We know which walls face the afternoon sun, what the plow does to a fence line, and that a good exterior season is about fourteen weeks long.

The things people ask first.

What does it cost?

It depends on the surface, the prep it needs and the product, so every job gets a flat price in writing after a free walkthrough. The ballpark estimator on the home page gives a range from your own numbers. There is no hourly billing and the price does not change unless you add to the scope.

When can you paint the outside of my house?

Exterior paint and stain need the surface dry and nights above roughly 40 degrees, which up here means June through September, sometimes a little either side. We book exteriors early in the year and do prep in the shoulder weeks so the painting days are not wasted. Interiors run all year.

Why did my last exterior peel so fast?

Almost always the prep. Paint over chalky, unwashed or unprimed wood has nothing to hold on to, and a mountain winter finds every weak spot. We wash, scrape, sand, prime every bare spot and caulk the gaps before the first coat goes on, and we use products rated for the elevation and the sun.

How long will it take?

A typical interior room is a day, a whole-house interior about a week, and a single-family exterior one to two weeks depending on the prep and the weather. We tell you the schedule in the written price and let you know the day before if weather moves it.

Do I have to move everything?

No. We move furniture to the middle of the room, cover it and the floors, and put it back. Take down anything fragile or personal from the walls and we handle the rest.

Can you help me pick colors?

Yes. We bring real samples, put them on your wall and look at them in your light at different times of day. For exteriors we also check what the HOA allows before anything goes on the house.

What if something is not right?

We walk every job with you at the end and touch up anything you point at before we leave. If something shows up later, call and we come back.

Where do you work?

We are based in Summit County, Colorado and paint in Breckenridge, Frisco, Silverthorne, Dillon, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Blue River. We take bigger jobs in Leadville, Fairplay, Vail and Georgetown. If you are a little farther, ask; for a whole exterior we travel.

Do you paint log homes and stained siding?

Yes. Log and timber get washed or media blasted, treated where they need it, and finished with a breathable stain rated for the elevation. Stained siding, decks and fences run from transparent to solid, and we show you the difference on a sample first.

Do you paint cabinets?

Yes. Doors and drawer fronts come off and are sprayed for a factory finish, the boxes are done in place, and the schedule is in the written price so you know how long the kitchen is out of action.

Do you work with HOAs and property managers?

Yes. Whole buildings or phased rows, with a written scope, photos, one point of contact and a sign-off walk, scheduled around tenants, guests and the season. We keep a color record so next year's phase matches.

Tell us about the job.

A few lines is plenty. We reply within one business day and set up a walkthrough at your place if it makes sense.
